Happy New Year message to clients — 40 wishes and 2027 announcements
A New Year message is the easiest, most inclusive way to thank clients for the year and get January off to a good start. This page covers when to send it, what to include, the 2026–27 dates that matter and the mistakes to avoid. Then it gives you 40 copy-paste examples: New Year wishes (text, email, formal, card, social), 2027 business announcements, year-end thank-yous, January booking messages, messages by trade, and replies and late wishes.
Dates shown are for the 2026–27 season in the US. Swap in your own open days and prices.
You have three good windows. The week between Christmas and New Year (Mon Dec 28 – Thu Dec 31, 2026) works for thank-you notes and “we’re back on January 4” reminders, because clients are reading messages but not yet busy. New Year’s Day itself (Friday, January 1, 2027) works for short wishes and social posts. The first two weeks of January work best for business news: new rates, hours, policies and booking pushes.
If you already sent Christmas or happy holidays messages, don’t send a second long note. A short New Year text or a January “we’re back” message is enough. And if you send just one message all season, a New Year message is the safest choice for a mixed client list, because it doesn’t assume anyone’s religion.
What to include
Their name, and one real detail (their pet, their project, how long you’ve worked together).
A specific thank-you: for booking, referring, reviewing or being patient.
One practical line if needed: your first open day, their next visit date.
Your name and business name, so the text isn’t from an unknown number.
Keep business news (rates, policy changes) to a separate January message, or put it after the thanks with a clear date.
2026–27 New Year dates for small businesses
Mon Dec 28 – Wed Dec 30, 2026: quiet days; good for thank-you messages and January booking pushes.
Thu Dec 31, 2026 (New Year’s Eve): many businesses close early. Post your hours by Dec 28.
Fri Jan 1, 2027 (New Year’s Day): federal holiday; most service businesses closed. Short wishes and social posts only.
Mon Jan 4, 2027: first full work week. A good start date for new rates, hours and policies.
Mon Jan 18, 2027 (MLK Day): some offices and schools are closed. Check client schedules.
Sat Feb 6, 2027 (Lunar New Year): for clients who celebrate.
Mistakes to avoid
Sending a price increase disguised as a greeting. Thank first, then give the change with a clear date.
Mass texts with visible group recipients. Send one at a time or use BCC/broadcast.
Mentioning the wrong year. Proofread “2026” vs “2027” in every template.
Overpromising (“no price changes this year!”) unless you mean it.
Pushing a January sale to a client who just had a hard year.
Forgetting to tell recurring clients when their first visit of the year is.
A worked example
A two-person cleaning business sent one message to its 64 regular clients on Monday, December 28: a thank-you, the first open day (Monday, January 4), and each client’s first visit date. Clients who had paused got the “restart recurring service” text instead.
They sent their rate change separately on Monday, January 4, with the first affected visit date and a one-line reason. Result: 11 paused clients restarted in the first two weeks of January, two clients asked about the new rate and both stayed, and the usual January slump was about half as deep as the year before.

Common questions
Is it okay to send a New Year message instead of a Christmas message? Yes. For a mixed client list it’s often the better choice. It’s inclusive and arrives when clients have more time to read.
Should I announce a price increase in my New Year message? It’s common, and January is a natural time for it. Keep the thanks real, give the new price, the date it starts and a one-line reason. See the price increase letter page for more versions.
Text or email? Text for regular clients who already text you; email for business clients, formal greetings and anything with details or links.
How late can I send New Year wishes? Up to mid-January is fine. After that, skip the wishes and send a normal check-in.
Should I include a discount? Only if January is slow for you and the offer is simple. Put it in a separate message from the thank-you if you can.
How to send it
Pick one wish and, if you need it, one announcement. Personalize the name and one detail, and send it one-to-one or by BCC. Put your holiday closure and reopening dates on the holiday closure notice, and send January booking messages once you’re back.
