Closing my business / retiring

Telling regular clients you’re closing is hard, and a clear text makes it easier on both sides. Give the last day you’re working, what happens to anything already booked or prepaid, and whether you can point them to someone else. Send it with plenty of notice, a few weeks if you can.

Only recommend someone you actually trust. If clients prepaid for future visits, say exactly how you’ll refund or finish them.

When to use this

The news and your last day

Regular clients.

Hi Alex — I wanted you to hear it from me first: I’m closing my business at the end of November. My last day of visits is Friday, November 27. Thank you for being such a great client.

What happens to booked visits

Already scheduled.

Hi Jordan — your visits through November 20 are still on. Anything booked after my last day is canceled, and I won’t charge for those.

Prepaid work

Refund or finish.

Hi Alex — you have two prepaid visits left. I can fit both in before November 27, or I can refund the $160. Which would you prefer?

Passing you along

If you trust someone.

Hi Jordan — if it helps, I’d recommend [Name] at [phone]. I’ve known them for years and they do careful work. No pressure at all.

Final thank-you

Last visit.

Hi Alex — today was my last visit. Thank you for trusting me in your home all these years. Wishing you all the best.

How to send it

Copy one message, swap in the real name and details, and send from your own phone or email. Keep it to a few sentences. If they need a different topic, use a Related link below instead of mixing two subjects in one text.
